Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We understand that every child is different, through research and communication, we map out student’s curriculum plan to assure a healthy, efficient and effective progress. Students are encouraged to develop the proper music reading and technical skill that are necessary to make music a part of their lives. To become proficient in music, a student must understand how music works, how practice works, and how his or her own mind and body work. In the end, students learn to express themselves more openly and communicate with others through music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Hsin-Yi Nebeker majored in piano and received Master of Music from The University of Texas at Austin, and Bachelor of Music from Brigham Young Univeristy.
Helen Nebeker received Bachelor of Music from Cleveland Institute of Music and is goint to start her Master degree at Manhattan School of Music, studying piano performance.

How did you get started teaching?
When Hsin-Yi Nebeker was pursuing both music degrees, she had taught at schools for three years. After graduating with master degree, she taught another year in the community school for Austin Independent School District. Then she opened her private studio for five years. In 1998, she decided to spend her time as a stay at home mom and raise the children, so she closed the studio, and coached her own children for eight years. When her children are older, she reopened the studio and have been teaching since 2009.
Helen Nebeker is going to teach online lesson only, starting fall of 2020.
What types of students have you worked with?
We specialize in piano, piano chamber, and theory. Offer online and in-person lessons to age 6 and up.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The students should know their long term and short term goal in music. The teacher can discuss with them often and understand the students' needs and help them to achieve their musical goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The students (and their parents) could prepare a list of the pieces they like to listen to and hope to learn. From that list, the teacher can see what style of the music the students want to learn.
