About this pro

I teach individual guitar lessons to anyone that wants to learn how to play or get better at playing the guitar. I have being doing it for the last 30 years and know what the challenges for a beginner and/or intermediate player are, regardless of their age, level of experience and style of interest.

I am a professional musician, play both electric and acoustic guitar, and also electric bass. I have been an active musician in the DFW circuit for the last 20 years, and 20 more prior to come to the US for a total of +40 years experience as a performer. I play from Blues, Rock'n Roll, Jazz, Latin, Classical, Pop, Funk, R&B, Brazilian, and other styles.

Currently I am teaching at Collin College (Plano, TX) the classes of Audio Engineering 1 and MIDI, as well as at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster where I teach MIDI on Fridays. I have also being the instructor for Commercial Guitar and Commercial Electric Bass private lessons at Collin. I actually wrote the manual for the MIDI class, and collaborated in the creation of the curriculum of two important Music Schools in South America.

In a nutshell, I have both the training and experience as a performer and as a teacher to help a student from beginning or intermediate level to achieve his/her goals.

I enjoy teaching at multiple levels I should say, but mostly when I see the joy of my students finding themselves playing something that it may seem hard or difficult to play at first but after taking my lessons they see the improvement when they overcome these challenges . Also, I enjoy when they just have fun playing the music they like. But the most joy comes from looking at them when they succeed at making a career as a musician, if that is the avenue they decide to take.

Juan is a knowledgeable and talented professional musician that understands music theory as well as playing techniques for both electric and acoustic guitar. As a teacher he quickly keys in on what the student needs to work on and is able to offer/explain/demonstrate different approaches as needed...and always in a patient manner. Juan is a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him for anyone seeking a competent, well rounded guitar teacher!

Juan is an excellent guitar player and he translates his years of playing into structured teaching materials. In my lessons wither him, he helps Me to find effective ways to practice and identify areas to work on. I will highly recommend Juan to anyone who wants to improve on their guitar playing.

Juan is _the_best_ guitar teacher I've ever experienced! He was willing to tailor my lessons to work on exactly the areas I wanted to improve, and always had a great exercise material and advice. I wholeheartedly recommend Juan to any guitarist that wants to advance their skill set no matter their current level. He also became a friend along the way. I can't say enough great things about him. Thank you, Juan!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Interview and diagnosis.

Interviewing gives me an insight of their interests and goals, style of preference, short and long term goals, also the time they have available to practice. This helps me to make a plan tailored to his/her needs.

Diagnosis helps me to know the students current performing abilities and knowledge level so I can determine what needs to be done to take the student to the desire level or next step in the process of achieving his/her goals.
