Emily Shaw Yoga
About
I provide guidance through YOUR yoga practice; whether you are a beginner, or have been practicing for years. I am a 500HR Certified Yoga Teacher as well as a 200HR Yoga Girl Certified Vinyasa teacher with over 20 years personal experience and over 10 years of teaching experience.
I teach mostly Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative Yogas, as well as Meditation practices and methods. However, yoga is adaptable for any body, in every situation. Every level is welcome; including those suffering from Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Anxiety, etc.
I truly love guiding people through creating a foundation for a practice they can continue you every day. It takes a gentle approach and an understanding that each person is an indivudal and deserves that time to be taken each session. Days can vary and it is about the overall process, not necessarily the indivual day's successes. Those are important, but it leads to a greater understanding of yourself, as a whole. Hopefully, a happier self, too. :)

First, we should get to know each other. What do you want to accomplish? Why did you choose Yoga? What do you already know about Yoga and what would you like to learn? Any aches or pains? Any heartaches, injuries or traumas? Etc.
I encourage my students to ask me questions. Why do I teach? What do I like about Yoga? What IS Yoga? We will discover a practice that is right for you.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am 500HR and 200HR Yoga Alliance Certified. I trained under Rachel Brathen and am a Yoga Girl Certified teacher.
I have been teaching for over nine years, including private students, studio classes, workshops, at mental health hospitals, etc. I have been practicing yoga for over 18 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
UPDATE:

Prices will be as follows:
30 min - Zoom/FaceTime/Skype - $25
60 min- Zoom - $50
90 min - Zoom - $75
Group zoom classes will begin soon and prices will be as follows:
30 min group - $18/per person
60 min group - $20/per person
90 min group - $28/per person
Etc. These prices are per hour, but I am happy to negotiate shorter or longer sessions, depending on the needs of the student.
How did you get started teaching?
I became very ill as a teenager and had to quit all the active things I was involved in; Ballet, Horseback Riding, Musical Theatre, etc.
I discovered yoga as a teenager and began to build strength, again. Eventually, I felt confident enough to say "I think other people should have access to this" and I started looking for ways to show others what I had learned and how to be gentle with their bodies. I think that's important. Force is rarely the answer, I find.
What types of students have you worked with?
Quite a variety.
I've had students as young as five and as old as 105.
Some of the ailments I train with:
Anxiety, depression, diabetes, obesity, loss of limb, broken limbs, parkinsons, etc.
As well as students of all levels.
A thing I hear a lot is "I'm not flexible enough to do Yoga".
To that I say, if you can breathe, you can do Yoga. :)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher you vibe with. One who isn't afraid to be asked many questions, and to find the answer if they don't know it.
Never let anyone tell you you've failed.
Good communication is important. Know what you want and don't be afraid to ask for it.
