About this pro

Besides playing live music several nights a week, I teach private guitar lessons in the Houston area and virtual guitar lessons (Skype, Zoom) to beginner, intermediate, and advanced guitarists who are looking to improve their skills and learn new songs the right way. You will learn the techniques you want to learn, and the songs that you enjoy, as well as the music theory behind those songs. I know that when you learn the "how" and the "why" behind a song, you can apply that knowledge to other songs, and even use that knowledge to write your own songs. I am well-versed in lead guitar playing and improvisation using scales on top of chord structures, and love to share that knowledge with students who are eager to learn. Whether you want to learn just a few new guitar chords/scales, some new songs, or learn how to rip a scorching guitar solo, I've got you covered!

I enjoy seeing the progress that my students make week by week and seeing them reach their goals. Whether that is playing their first gig, or completing a new song from start to finish.

Sparky is an amazing musician and brings his love of music to each lesson. He tries to tailor lessons to each student’s own musical preferences and teaches them the music they love.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When working with a new student, I get familiar with what they have already learned and I find out what they would like to improve on. Whether its learning a particular song, or learning how to improvise a guitar solo etc. I want the student to walk away from the lesson having learned something that they will put to use.

My students always leave with something to practice on their own between lessons.

Students can freely contact me with any guitar questions between lessons.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

When I started playing guitar, I took lessons from a great teacher who helped me understand music theory and how chords intertwine with melodys. My teacher also taught me how to improvise and play with other people, not just with pre-recorded music. I then studied music in High school and College.
But aside from that, I have applied all of that knowledge to performing with other musicians on stage for over 15 years.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$50 Per 45 minute lesson.

How did you get started teaching?

I started with teaching friends of mine. Then, I started getting inquiries about lessons at my gigs. So, it started with a couple of students. Then, word of mouth spread and I had a small roster of students who were all at different experience levels.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have taught complete beginners all the way up to advanced players who already perform on stage. Some want to learn their first chords and some want to learn the guitar solo to "Sweet Child Of Mine". Some students want to simply be able to jam with their piers and strum a few chords.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

One of my younger students has a band, and getting to see him perform at an event all the songs that I taught him was particularly gratifying.
