About
I am the owner and piano instructor at Mountain Valley Studios, located just south of Burleson (2 miles west of I-35).
I have a bachelor's degree in Piano Pedagogy and have been teaching private lessons for 30 years. I specialize in teaching my students to read, play, and understand printed music and music theory. I teach all ages (4 thru adult) and levels. I have taken students all the way into college levels, seeing success in competitions and college scholarships. My greatest strength, however, is with young beginners.

I love being a part of a child's adventure in learning new things! Watching their skill and excitement and love for music grow gives me the greatest joy! I see their character growing through the discipline it takes to be successful at the piano. I get to help them learn how to overcome challenges, how to respond to failure, how to solve problems, how to deal with anxiety, etc, etc. And then, when they stick with it long enough, I get to be there when they realize they can do something amazing that few people can do well. I love to celebrate every victory with them... big or small!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before starting lessons, I encourage new students to schedule a consultation appointment. This gives me an opportunity to go over studio policies, etc. And it gives the student an opportunity to meet me, so they aren't sitting down with a complete stranger at the first lesson. At this consultation, we will establish a starting point for their lessons, based on the student's needs and their background in music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy in 1993. I have been teaching private piano lessons since 1991. I also work regularly as an accompanist (collaborative pianist) at area high schools, playing for instrumental and vocal students performing in solo competitions.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Tuition is paid monthly, in advance of lessons. Tuition fees are based on the length and frequency of lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
I teach students of all ages. I will start private piano lessons as early as age 3, if both the student and parent seem ready to handle it. And I've taught adult students who are well into their senior years. And everything in between!
Group piano lessons are not usually offered younger than age 6 or 7.
I have quite a bit of experience with students with various learning, developmental, and social challenges. I can usually adjust my teaching to meet their individual needs. Often times, private music lessons can even be used as a tool to help them overcome those challenges.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Never hire a private music instructor just because their rates are the lowest in your area.
