Mitchakes Music
About
I've been teaching private music lessons for nearly twenty years as a professional recording session guitarist based out of Dallas, TX. My lessons focus on helping students develop their ear, and learning songs to put theory in context of playing with others! I love helping my students to discover themselves through music!
I enjoy teaching music specifically because music changed my life! I love being able to change others' lives as well by giving them the gift of music!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by asking each student where they are looking to go with their instrument, and then help build a custom lesson plan around their needs to help get them there. Each student is different, and as such, I don't have a strict lesson plan that fits every student equally.
I strongly believe that private, one on one instruction is the best way to learn how to play a new instrument. Not only is it a much more forgiving environment to learn in, but the content of each lesson can be tailored to your needs and preferences. There’s a clearer path of individual progress from week to week, and more precise attention to achieving the goals you set for yourself as a musician. As a professional recording session musician, I am proficient in every style of music, so one on one instruction will really give you an edge in being able to learn new material quickly, know when you’re out of tune, understanding what key you’re in, play in precise time with ease, using the entire fretboard of your guitar, and understanding how your favorite artists write music and put pieces of songs together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a associates degree in commerical music and audio engineering. I have been a recording session guitarist since I was 15 years old, and still play on recording sessions regularly. I have been teaching music privately for the last 13 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
As for pricing, please contact me about availability and pricing as I have several different tiers depending on what you are looking for in instruction.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in 2005 part time at Fiddle and Bow Music Company at 15 years old. I enjoyed not only helping others learn about the instrument and how to play, but that I became a much better musician personally after having to explain how I see the instrument. I have been teaching guitar privately ever since.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students everywhere from total beginners who've never picked up a guitar, to full-blown professionals who are looking to branch out into other elements of playing or producing music!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recording music with some of Stevie Ray Vaughan's friends Anson Funderbergh and Christian Brooks was pretty fantastic!
