Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first meeting is free, just to get to know what lessons to plan, scheduling, etc. I like to get to know you and what you want out of lessons. Every new student gets to play for me, even if you've never played before!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have about 10 years of private piano instruction and I've played piano most of my life. I have taught piano at home for about 12 years, mainly after retiring from college teaching.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually charge $25 for a half-hour lesson, $35 for 45 minutes, $45 for an hour. Most children do well with a half-hour. Students have to purchase their own books, but I can often get them for you at a discount.
How did you get started teaching?
As I said, I've played all my life since about age 3 or 4. As an adult I was sometimes asked if I would teach someone. After retirement from college teaching, I decided to take on a couple of students. I enjoyed it so much that I kept adding more students. I took a break during the covid period, and I am just now beginning to build my student group again.
What types of students have you worked with?
Children from age 5 to late teens, adults of ages to 80s.
