Julia Tucker Guitar Lessons

About

My teaching approach: I practice teaching in a very relaxed environment. Whether the lessons are at your house or mine there should not be a lot of distractions. I have taught people from ages 7 to 76.

My influences are: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, pretty much all classic rock and alternative 90's music. My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: I prefer to teach during the week from 11-8 but I sometimes make exceptions for the weekends. Guitar Techniques: Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Performance, Improvisation, Reading Music, Music Theory, Song Writing, Recording and Production.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: We always start with tuning the guitar and then if they have played before I ask them to play their favorite piece to the best of their ability and then we proceed from there with what I think they need to work on. Most of my students have never played before and in that instance I teach them how to tune their guitar and start with the basics such as simple chords, frets, finger placements, and warm up exercises.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: I usually have students tell me what kind of music they like and we start out learning basic or beginner's songs in that genre. As the lessons progress they learn how to tune by ear, music theory, how to read and write music, how to play with/accompany other instruments, etc.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: My ideal guitar student is someone who can commit to learning. I require my students to practice a minimum of 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week. If a student cannot spare that time then they do not really have time to learn how to play.

I am constantly assessing my students skill level so that I can customize the next step for them in order to maximize productivity in their learning journey. Seeing and hearing students play the songs they love in a skillful way is the most fulfilling part of my life. I love helping others in general, in any capacity but teaching others the language of music in a way that they are fluent and can use for the rest of their life like I do is my favorite thing to do.
