Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before working with a new student I like to do a brief complimentary interview, finding out a bit about their lifestyle, what they are looking for and why, and what they long term goal is. Even if you don't any answers, it is a good place to start! The first lesson would include going over some basic poses and breath work. When you are ready we could do a series of movements and enjoy some restorative poses. More experienced yogis would have a different experience. It is all about what YOU want!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a 200 hour yoga teacher training certificate, RYT. I have done another 100 hours of workshops and continuing my education, and lots of studying on my own.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have a set hourly rate for one hour, then reduce that rate when you purchase a package of three or six. You will see better results with repeated sessions. And the more you buy, the more you save! You are making a comittment to improving yourself! What is the value of that? Priceless!
How did you get started teaching?
I first discovered yoga when I was a single mom with teenagers. I loved how a physical activity could also make you feel so relaxed. I kept coming back. I knew I wanted to share this! There are so very many benefits for the mind and the body. There is a style of yoga for everyone, and it is accessible to every body. Yoga has been around hundreds of years, and is so beneficial to our modern-day life style.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a variety of students, mostly beginners who I have been so inspired to watch them grow and enjoy the practice. I have corporate clients, private clients, studio classes and classes at community centers. I have worked with all ages and abilities, from athletes to chair yoga for seniors!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently begin offering a meditation practice. I like to describe mine as a modern-day meditation. Nothing woo-woo. The feedback has been great; that it wasn't as challanging as anticipated, the time flew by and they felt peaceful afterwards.
Also, I offered some free yoga in the park classes this past summer that were a lot of fun. Practicing outdoors is the best! It gave me an opportunity to meet some new people and it is always exciting to see the interest in yoga.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
There are many aspects to yoga so don't be shy about saying what you are looking for, it helps the instructor to better serve you. Have a phone call or meeting to see if you connect. Keep looking, there is someone for you!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about why you are interested in yoga or meditation. Did somone recomend it, a doctor, a friend, a loved one? Have you read great things about it? Are you looking to improve your lifestyle? Do you prefer to not go to a gym or studio? Do you want to learn the basics before going to a gym or studio class? Are you wanting to learn so you can join a friend? WHAT are your goals, both short-term and long-term? So many reasons, these are just a few.
