About
I've been in business 20 years now! It's been an absolute joy to teach these kids & adults but especially the kids! When they 1st come to me, their feet can't even touch the ground while sitting in their chair. Now they come visit me standing 6ft 2 holding a six pack of beer while giving me the most heart warming hug anyone could ever get & sit down & jam with them because I had such a huge unpacked on their lives! Some students went on to be better than me & went pro. People will ask me, "isn't that embarrassing knowing you have a student better than you??" I'd say, "NO WAY!!! I COULDNT BE MORE PROUDER!!! I DID MY JOB!!!"ππππππ

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Theirs nothing more exciting than meeting & working with a brand new student! I can't tell you how many times in my 30 years of music teaching where a child walks into the studio for the 1st time as to where their little legs & feet can't touch the ground when they sit in a regular size chair, to one day they walk into the same studio many years later standing 6 foot 40 inches & they still love & respect you! There is no greater feeling that that! I've turned out some amazing musicians! Some are now in Nashville, some are in Los Angeles & some are in New York all playing professionally! Some ask me "Are you sad because you have students that are better than you now??" & I say with beaming pride "ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I've done my job & I couldn't be more proud!"πππ
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My only education is this! As far back as I can remember, I struggled with becoming a decent guitarist growing up! When all of my friends were getting good fast I struggled & was always behind & made fun of. One thing I had that others didn't have & that was determination & heart. No matter how hard it was to learn I never gave up! I truly believe that what I went through as a kid prepared me somehow as to be a teacher that is attentive, patient, understanding & even loving. Because of my ability to understand where that student is coming from & also having set examples & great exercises made me the busiest teacher in the try city area!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
It's usually $25 per half hour in person one on one. That's how students start out with but usually when they get better than they switch to an hour or longer & that can range from $50 or $60. The lessons are once a week & I do not advise anymore than once a week. I expect what I give the student once a week to be practiced everyday until the following week. I can make you a solemn promise that if you are accountable to time structure of when your lessons are & not miss them & be teachable then my promise is that I will have you doing things on your instrument in a month or 2 that you only dared to dream of, I'm that good. Why you ask?? BECAUSE I TRULY CARE!!!π
How did you get started teaching?
One day I remembered all the teachers I had in my life, including the regular school ones as well. There were several bad one & I remember everyone of them including their names! I thought to myself that if I was a music teacher, I wouldn't treat my students like that! That is how I became a very successful music teacher!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have had the pleasure of teaching soooo many amazing people! Their are several celebrities also. I can only mention one, his name is Khalid Hosseini the famous author of The Kite Runner! What ya great guy & he became a pretty good guitarist also! We still keep in contact after I moved to Texas.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
There are so many but one stands out for sure! I had this one guy in high school who'd been taking lessons for several months. I taught him so many different styles. One particular style called Chicken Pickin in very hard but very doable. He had just finished his lesson & we were talkinbout what he should practice. He then tells me that I should stop trying to teach him & other students that chicken pickin thing because it's WAYYYY TOOOO HARD to learn & blah blah blah! Well right when he was talking, another student walked in & heard him. Little Ashley who was only 7 years old sat down immediately & started to chicken pick like there was no tomorrow while she looked him right in the eyes! He stopped talking & looked at her like he saw a ghost. He then looked at me & I just smiled. He then walked right out the door shaking his head. It was one of those crazy once in a lifetime moments that'll never happen again! I spoke to him a few times down the road & he said he'd never ever learned a lesson like he did that day! Good job Ashley!πππ
