Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Start with form and technique, then progress to note reading skills. After the student shows confidence in both areas, then move onto rhythmic patterns and scales for fluidity
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have performed in many venues, have played piano for the past 31 years and have had some amazing teachers along the way.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do lessons based off of a tuition, so there is a flat rate that is paid the week before the third of the following month. That rate does fluctuate depending on the needs of the student and the distance I need to travel.
How did you get started teaching?
I inherited six students from somebody who moved away, and then through personal referrals I quickly climbed from six students up to 62 students per week.
What types of students have you worked with?
All different types of students, one student may learn one way, but does not necessarily mean that other students will learn that same way, so I am constantly revising my teaching method on a student by student basis
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Held a recital for my students and it was a smashing success. Everybody did an amazing job playing in front of an audience
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You really want to find a teacher that can teach a particular subject of music in several different ways. Somebody who is high-energy and involved in the lesson, who also knows how to communicate properly.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Does this particular teacher have the experience that you are looking for, and just how committed the student is to properly learning how to play
