Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We meet and discuss what their health and fitness goals are, any past or present injuries they may have and work out a tentative schedule. Then we go through a very basic session based on what was discussed, so I can assess what their body's need outside of what was supposed spoken about. If we move forward, I then create a series of classes, specially geared towards the client. Classes change monthly, based on the strengths/need of the client.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken well over 700 hours of various teacher trainings and have taught over 1200 yoga classes.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Private yoga classes are $80 per session. There are options for discount through purchasing multiple sessions at once. Military and spouses receive $10 off sessions, seniors also receive a discounted rate.
How did you get started teaching?
I've been practicing for over 16 years and going that the yoga community lacked the representation of women of color. I wanted to be apart of the change I needed to see in the yoga community. I wanted to create a space for all womxn, and people regardless of size, color, fitness level, to be in their bodies and truly experience yoga for themselves.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with a variety of clients. Some have dance and fitness backgrounds, others are older with mobility limitations. One of my private clients I've been working with fit the last 4 years, has had double hip replacement surgeries. I've been with her through her physical therapy and beyond.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I also plan yoga retreats and my private client recent with the hip replacement surgeries was able to attend and participate in most of the activities. She had an amazing time as did the rest of the group
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What do I want from this? More flexibility? Strength? Was this a Dr.'s suggestion? Really think about this one.
2. How often do I want to aim for? Yoga is a practice best done a few times a week for real results.
3. Do I have supplies? You need a yoga mat and 2 blocks. Some teachers can provide them for the first few classes to borrow. But it's highly beneficial to have your own. Plus it helps with keeping you inspired.
4. What kind of yoga do you need? / What kind of yoga does the teacher offer?
Most doctors suggest starting a yoga practice because their patients need a low impact form of movement that gentle on the body/joints. Or the person is stressed out has high BP and needs something relaxing and centering. There is a style of yoga for every one, you just need to ask what's offered and for an explanation of what a potential instructor offers.
