Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Keep it simple.. fundamentals and basics are everything for future success in any endeavor.. I make sure a student understands each step, how it connects to his / her future development and how everything he or she is learning matters, just like every stroke by an artist on a painting is there for a reason.
Step 1 - Have a conversation before first lesson to discover the students goals
Step 2- Assign one task to student after each lesson to help the student improve during the week
Step 3- Most important to me is the student must be having fun while mastering challenges.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Full detailed Resume available upon request..
1) Over 30 years experience in martial arts including Bando Kick Boxing, Nine animal systems of Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Chinese Boxing
2) 3rd and 6th degree in two separate martial arts systems.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have only recently decided to start teaching privately so after the first lesson at no cost, once the student sees the value, pricing can be discussed based on number of days per week, how long per session etc...Typically a private session will range between min $35 to max $45 per session .This is more of a passion for me than anything else.
How did you get started teaching?
After I reached the top grading in my system of martial arts, I opened my own school in the 1980's and taught formally for up to 20 years thereafter.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types but prefer students over 6 years old..
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Teaching two kids once a week at the park close to where I live and watching them grow in a matter of weeks both mentally and physically..
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Can the teacher perform what he / she is teaching and does the teacher really care about your development not just as a martial artist but as a human being. Is the teacher in shape to set an example so that its not just about do as I say but do because the teacher is leading the way physically and mentally.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1) How can martial arts help their life long goals in business and in life. 4) Will I have to compete in tournaments 5) In order to become proficient how much time do I need to put in weekly, or daily or monthly... 6) Can martial arts have a positive effect on my school performance, business performance, life dreams etc
