About

My name is Sean Ashe and I am a professional guitarist, solo artist, songwriter, and producer, based out of the greater Sacramento area

I have been teaching privately since 2011, and have taught hundreds of students how to express themselves more comfortably and consistently on the guitar.

I work with each student to determine their individual needs, and base the lesson plans on what YOU the student are aiming to do with music.

Here are a few concepts I have gone over with students in the last several weeks.

- Fretboard Theory (2,3,4 note per string scales, CAGED system, 212/313, expanding the pentatonic scale etc.)

- Phrasing and articulation, adding expression into playing whether it is melodic/lead or chordal/rhythm. Emphasis on bending, vibrato, slides, prebends, whammy/wang bar technique.

- A holistic approach to technique, with focus on posture (how we sit, stand, and hold the guitar) to breathing, pick grip, left hand placement, gesture, and much more.. if our body isn't working efficiently, how can we ever express ourselves fully?. Warming up, developing left hand finger interdepence etc.

- Developing a systematic and logical approach to permutations and variations, with an emphasis on timing, dynamics and flexibility of technique (to switch from one to the other, seamlessly).

- I'm a picking nerd, and as they say, your vibe attracts your tribe: alternate picking, hybrid picking, economy picking, swybrid picking (hybrid + sweeps), playing with the fingers only. My philosophy for the right hand is to have a technique that is most able to do whatever we will it, at any given time. So finding a natural middle ground for all of these techniques to live together, while still muting consistently and accurately.

I teach both online (Zoom/Facetime etc) as well as in person and can’t wait to help you along your path of self expression.
