About

I originally studied at Berklee College of Music and followed that up with years of making a living playing all styles of music -- with emphasis on jazz, blues, rock and pop. During that time, I taught hundreds of students.

Perhaps you're a serious player who seeks a complete mastery of the fingerboard and wants to apply all elements of music theory to become a more proficient soloist. I've got you covered.

And, if jazz isn't your thing, and you have rock or pop tunes you'd love to play, I'll have you playing your favorites. I currently have students of all ages with many different musical tastes.

It's always awesome to see students doing things on the instrument that they previously didn't think possible.

Rick is not only very knowledgeable, but passionate about music. From the get go, he asked me about what my goals where, what music I wanted to learn, and took that feedback and integrated it into my lessons by the second meeting.
Overall, hes very easy to follow in explanations, patient when I need clarification, and someone I enjoy having the opportunity to learn from.

Rick is great. He is easy to work with. He works hard to make lessons fun. He teaches what I want to learn and tailors the lessons to my needs. I would recommend him to any one who wants to learn guitar.

What I learned was that I HAVE the capability to move my playing, with Ricks Guidance, in the direction that I am seeking with ease and grace. Rick made it seem so easy and took the time to listen to my needs and then explained what I needed to know..

    Frequently asked questions

The first step in working with a new student is to find out what their prior experience level is (if any) and who their particular favorite artists are.

Also, I assess whether student is interested in working on  fundamentals such as reading music (not required, but many students do want that incorporated into the lessons).

I make sure that all subsequent lessons include material from favorite artists. Often, for beginners, I can make favorite songs initially easier by putting them in friendlier keys or using simpler chord forms. The goal is always to ensure that the lessons include music that resonates with the student.

Given my 30 years of playing experience and study as a former music major, I can take students as far as they want to go. And, since I'm a regular gigging musician, I understand the joy of playing music and love to share that enthusiasm with students.

Lessons are $25 per 1/2 hour.
