My teaching approach:

I believe in getting my students as active with their instrument as possible. I prepare them to record, to perform, and to be ready to write music. We can work out of books, but I will try to find examples of the skill or material in songs that the student is interested in.

I'm influenced by Guthrie Govan, Bumblefoot, Eddie Van Halen, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, George Benson, Greg Howe, Andy Timmons, Shawn Lane, Primus, Animals As Leaders, Megadeth, Chimp Spanner, Meshuggah, Allan Holdsworth, AC/DC, Early Metallica, Guns n Roses, Frank Zappa, Al Di Meola, and a ton of others.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

In the introductory lesson, the student and I discuss music, goals, and current ability. If a student has had previous experience with the instrument, I will have them demonstrate a piece or something they have learned in order to get a better understanding of their ability.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

My lessons start with going over what a student has learned or practice the week prior. I like to become as involved as possible with my students' playing and making the lessons fun by including material that the students are interested in. There will be tests, but I'm lenient and believe that learning at one's own pace is best.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal guitar student is one who is excited to play guitar.
