How did you get started teaching?
My very first introduction to yoga was through a family member who had a strong practice. She taught me a session in her home.
I then did videos and practiced on my own for many years. At that time I lived in a remote area and options were limited.
When I moved to the city in 2002, I went to my first yoga class at a studio and fell in love.
I adored how yoga made me feel, both physically and mentally. It allowed me to empty my mind of all its' troubles and worries and find the inner peace I was seeking.
After just one class, I made the decision to help others by teaching yoga to them.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught yoga to women, men, older people, young people, busy professionals, pregnant women, children and more.
My true passion is teaching yoga to busy professionals and individuals who need help to de-stress and slow down.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If you are looking to hire a yoga teacher, ask a lot of questions.
The teacher should also be asking you a lot of questions, to be sure there is a good fit for both parties.
You'll want to work with a yoga teacher or organization that has a professional approach.
Ask what their cancellation policy is.
What if that teacher isn't a good fit - can you change teachers?
Be leery of anyone charging too little, as they often are not qualified or certified.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Some questions that students should think through would include:
-What is your approach to working with a student like me?
-Are you able to accommodate my specific needs or situation?
-What style of yoga do you teach?
-Do you tailor or customize sessions based on my goals, likes, wants and needs?
-What is your cancellation or refund policy?
-How many years of experience do you have?
