Learn By Ear
About
Music runs deep in my family. It's a passion/gift I enjoy sharing. I play about 15 hours a week, practice with my band when a gig is coming up, and am Co- music director at Saint Ambrose Episcopal. The music ensemble is 2 guitars bass, piano with 4 part vocal accompaniment playing contemporary music.
Music opens up so many brain pathways that transend all fascets of life. Music is mathimatical, Music engages the entire brain. Now that I am semi- retired I have more time to share my love of music with young adults, and look forward to imparting my passion for music to my students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want to know your goals/expectations and what you feel is your best way to learn. For the most part I self taught, playing along with my records. I had lessons when I 1st started (3rd grade) but playing with others and listening to records became my primary way to learn. Having a band, and the synergy of creativity is very rewarding. I think those that want to learn to play, there are rudimentary steps initially to get started. I.E. dexterity exercises, proper hand positioning, setting small but obtainable goals, practice commitment, all are important to feel that progress is happening.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I came to Colorado for college as a music major. Came to realize very quickly that my Dyslexia made reading music even more challenging. I had learned long ago that my gift of learning music by ear, allowed me to learn new songs quicker than the challenges of reading music. It is that passion of learning that 56 years playing guitar is a fire still burning brightly. Teaching is a core passion acquired from many family members that choise Teaching. I look forward to imparting my passion for music to my students. I use both my guitar and my piano as a means to help students understand chords, chord progressions, how math palys an integral part to learnning music.
