I focus on learning how music works so you don't need me one day.
I feel like teaching one song at a time with no real extra understanding and to why it's put together the way it is is similar to handing someone a fish.
If you teach them why it sounds that way and how many other songs use that idea as well as how to use it yourself in context, you begin to teach them how to fish.
Lets get you fishing all on your own. If the fish ain't biting, we can sit down and work through my theory book together.
I love teaching people how to be competent well rounded musicians. They go on to be able to speak in music so effortlessly and it really makes me proud.
Even when we butt heads, the amount of satisfaction from finally understanding and being able to use some new piece of information creates such joy.
