My teaching approach: I hold a masters degree and a bachelors degree in guitar performance and have performed extensively throughout my homecountry of Scotland and here in Denver both in the classical field and as an electric guitarist in metal and rock bands. I have recorded and released various EPs and albums and have worked as a session guitarist and as a pit musician for musicals. I have my main classical guitar, an acoustic guitar, and both 7-string and 6-string electric guitars. In my home studio I have a pro-tools and logic recording set up and an extensive library of printed music.
My influences are: As a classical player I am strongly influenced by non-guitarists, I love orchestral music and chamber music.
My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio or the student's home
Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: I am available Monday-Saturday (I usually take Sundays off but can be available if necessary). Mon-Fri I'm available from 9am - 9pm Saturday I'm available from 9am - 1pm
Guitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: I usually have the student play something for me (provided they're not an absolute beginner) and will then discuss their musical interests and knowledge.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: The content of a lesson depends greatly on the student's ability level and areas of interest. Lessons tend to be shaped for each individual student. You can expect to work on technique, scales and harmony, repertoire, and other performance skills. I can also tutor you in songwriting, recording techniques, music theory, and music history.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: I'm most interested in teaching students with a desire to learn and who have a passion for music. Nothing makes me happier as a teacher when a student turns up for a lesson not only ready to play what I had asked them to work on but with new music and questions they have come to through their own exploration of their passion.
