Mike's Guitar Lessons
About
I am a classically trained guitarist, that also loves many other genres of music from pop to blues to rock. Whether you are looking to prepare for nyssma or college, or just want to learn a few chords and play some tunes, I can help make that process as easy and painless as possible.
Seeing the progress my students make gives me a great sense of pride. I especially enjoy working with younger students. As a father of 2, seeing the excitement that children get when discovering music for the first time gives me a truly awesome feeling.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Given the current state of the world, I have been offering online lessons through google meet, zoom, facetime or any other virtual meeting app. The initial meeting is a chance to discuss musical interests, goals, and to assess the student's current level of playing. My lessons consist of a combination of exercises and muisc theory as well as music the student wants to learn. Of course all of this can be customized at the students request. Whether you want to be a serious musician or you're just taking this on as a hobby, I can be there to support and guide you.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am classically trained and have a degree in music performance. I also have many years experience teaching for a local music store. My students have ranged from 5 years old to over 90 years old. It is never to late to pick up the guitar and have some fun.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, lessons are typically a half hour. I find that longer lessons can be frustrating for new students. It is impoortant to take in some information and really process it before moving to the next step. For more advanced students, longer lessons can be beneficial to really dig in to the material. Half hour lessons are $25 and 45 minute lessons are $35.
How did you get started teaching?
I started at my local music store after I had just finished my music degree. I had just bought a house with my wife in a new neighbordhood and started applying to all the local music stores. I was given a chance, and never looked back. Teaching music has been a very rewarding experience for me.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide range of students from younger to older, beginners to more advanced, and I have taught many styles of music. While I have a deep appreciation for classical music, I also enjoy jamming out to some classic rock and even some pop tunes as well.
