About this pro

My B.M. is from Berklee college of music and my teaching approach realizes each student learns at a different pace, therefore every lesson is tailored to the students’ unique needs.

I work with each student, beginner or advanced to help them become the best guitar player possible using songs, exercises, scales, and theory.

On my web page there is a link to my Youtube page that has free lesson supplements.

Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: Guitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection

I come from a family of musicians so music is my life. I am very lucky to perform, compose and also teach what I love to do!

Shaun is knowledgeable, responsive, and fun. He is able to provide instruction on both playing and the underlying theory to help build out technical knowledge and understanding across genres.

Being an older student with bad practicing skills I have benefited a great deal from Shaun Dougherty's patience. I have tried off and on since the 1960's to learn to play the guitar and this is the first time I actually believe that I will accomplish this dream. I don't think most people know that Shaun Dougherty earned a degree in Arranging Theory & Composition from the Berklee College of Music in Boston and that combined with preforming live throughout the US has made him an incredible teacher. I have actually learned to read music.

Knowledgeable and encouraging to student of all ages and levels. Very flexible and will work with your musical interests. My children have taken lessons from him consistently (weekly) since they were young. A full-time working musician, composer and performer. Highly qualified and experienced guitarist. I highly recommend to anyone seeking guitar lessons.

Shaun is very patient with me. I am an older student and don't pick things up so quickly anymore but he never shows his frustration. He's also very well trained. He is able to foray into my odd musical tastes of Flamenco and old French Torch songs with ease. Shaun is relaxed, flexible and professional. I went from zero to being able to play Bach (kind of sort af) in just over a year.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like the student to tell me about themselves in an email. I like to know what kinds of music they like, their goals and past experiences. I offer a free 15 minute 'intro' to make sure the video connection works, get their guitar in tune and just say 'hello'. I teach Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30am-7:00pm

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have my B.M. from Berklee college if music in Boston MA. I also have over 15 years teaching experience that consists of over 500 students and 15,000 lessons taught!

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Lessons are $25 per 30 minute lessons once a week. I do have several students that take mutliple lessons a week so I am open to that too.
