About

Shala is a sanskrit word meaning “home”. A yoga shala is a gathering place for students of yoga to practice, share, experience and grow. The Shiva Yoga Shala is a sacred space for movement. In this space, we evoke the energy and learn to dance with Shiva, the Hindu deity of destruction and transformation. In life, the only thing constant is change. In our Yoga practice Shiva is responsible for change through destroying the ego, and letting go of negative habits and attachments. Thus the power of destruction associated with Lord Shiva has great purifying power. In our main space, you will see a large statue of Shiva in his form, Nataraj, the “Lord of the Dance” to inspire and remind us to let go, open ourselves to change, and gracefully move through life. Our teachers create a safe space of acceptance and encouragement. Together we move to strengthen the unity of body, mind and spirit. Each class offers a creative dynamic series of poses blended together with breath, music and inspiration. A flow of energy and expression is created that strengthens your body, eases your mind, and touches your spirit. The Shiva Yoga Shala is a safe home for transformation. Our entire team is here to serve you on your journey. Welcome hOMe.

Frequently asked questions

We have a program called NEW YOU, which is a 6-week challenge program.  We also have a New Student Special, offering 10 consecutive days of unlimited yoga for $20.  We have several classes per day that are suitable for beginners.  And, of course, we offer private lessons.

Our teachers and school are all certified and registered through Yoga Alliance.  We also offer 200-hour Teacher Training certification and many classes and workshops for teachers to earn CEUs.

Most new students use the New Student Special, which is $20 for 10 days (consecutive) of unlimited yoga.  This gives the new student the opportunity to attend many classes and get a good feel for the studio and our teachers.

I received my training in Sacramento and San Francisco, CA.  I had many health issues and after my first class ten years ago I felt better than I had in years.  Within a few short months of practicing yoga, I knew that I had to share this amazing practice with the world.  I left a successful 28 year career with Fortune 50 company to dedicate my life to teaching yoga.

I founded the Ageless Program - making yoga accessible for everybody, no matter age or illness or physical ability.  I have worked with all types of students, including students in wheel chairs, our elderly population and athletes.

Our New You Program is in its sixth cohort, teaching beginners.  It is so cool to see the progress they make and more importantly the health benefits they receive within six weeks.

Many teachers and studios treat yoga as a "workout".  Find a studio and teachers that have a real sense of authenticity to the practice; and one where safety and alignment is a top priority.
