I believe in comprehensive music education including music theory - while being sure to inform student of shortcut tools available for understanding the foundations of composition. Having the student write their own music should begin at the first lesson, if the student approaches the subject with an open mind and healthy curiousity about the subject.
I had been a music major my first year in college. My current musical involvement is with The Trey Clegg Singers as a Tenor I ( a semi-professional multicultural choir based in Atlanta Georgia ). I have instrumental and vocal experience along with music writing / lyric writing ability that has enriched my life greatly. Remember, all of this I simply learned and YOU CAN TOO ! ! ! Your friends will begin calling want you acquire a Talent or Gift when you move them emotionally with the music you produce. I have a portable keyboard if the necessity arises that you need to try out a lesson before you invest in your own equipment. Any Musical education should include exposure to keyboarding skills because of the value of visualizing note intervals & chord progressions and relating them back to the visual of the keyboard. Let me help you lite a fire in your head and your heart for learning music ! ! !

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I teach beginning piano using the Suzuki method. If a student already has a developed skill in keyboarding, we conference on whether the student would get value from my advanced style or if they might benefit from a classical keyboard instruction model. I teach beginning guitar from the standpoint of becoming comfortable with the instrument and I pull no punches on conveying the amount of practice time required to become proficient on any stringed instrument. I will cheerlead advancement, but it is the students responsibility to take control of learning through repetition, muscle memory, and their own physical training to develope required dexterity of control for successful picking, plucking, and strumming.

2 Years Secondary Musical Education including Music Theory.

What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked in the past with both Adult and Child students. I believe in constructing a safe environment for children, all students under 17 must be accompanied in lesson proximity by another adult student / parent-guardian or parent who is willing to sit in within proximity for the lesson duration.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
This last May I performed with The Trey Clegg Singers at the Spoleto Music Festival in Charleston, South Carolina !
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Get an instructor you a comfortable with and plan to learn enough from your them to arrive at a point on the learning curve where you can then self teach and thus develope your own musical style and specific musical interest. S.Clark
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Are you yourself genuinely interested in the subject matter, and (among other activities and current involvements) can you carve out the time required between lessons to practice and in turn develope and progress to make it a fun and life enriching endeavor !
