Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I do is learn what the goal of my student is. Then, it becomes my goal as well and we develop a plan on how to reach it. I create lesson plans based on their strengths & weaknesses and pay close attention to how they respond to challenges & difficulty. I pride myself in working very closely with my students and it leads my students to progress quickly! Most important of all, I find out what type of training they enjoy best if they enjoy the training they are more likely to stick with it!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 25 years of training in the martial art & combat sports as well as experience competing as a professional in mixed martial arts.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My private lessons are all the same rate to make it simply. $75/hour for one on one lessons. Committed students who purchase a pack of 10 get a discount of $10/lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching by showing my friends in grade school techniques that I was learning throughout my martial arts journey. I kept doing so informally until 10 years ago when I began teaching professionally.
What types of students have you worked with?
I’ve worked with all types of students of all age groups, backgrounds, athletic ability and experience levels. I’ve trained professional athletes and I’ve trained people who are unable to walk. If you want to learn, I can make it happen
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event that made me happy was hosting my gym’s first ever holiday party. It included a 2 hour training workshop by one of my favorite local kickboxing coaches, followed by food, drinks & laughter. Seeing our team become a family over the years was something I am very proud of.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that you feel comfortable with, that you connect with. The more you enjoy being around your instructor, the more likely you are to stay committed.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should ask themselves: “what are my goals? What do I want out of my training? What do I hope to gain my training with this coach?”
