Alyssa’s yoga journey began when she was 15, simply looking for a way to move her body and workout. Entering the hot yoga world, she eventually switched into the more spiritual and holistic side of yoga; focusing on truly living the yoga both on and off the mat. She received her 200 hour certification from The Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in July of 2017. Spending the month living at Kripalu changed her life and opened her eyes up to the healing power of yoga. She began teaching Kripalu and Vinyasa yoga at Stonehill College a few months later, and also held a substitute teaching role at Revelation Yoga in Norton, MA. She has rec ... View Profile

Yoga has brought Michelle a deeper appreciation for the beauty in the world. Her first experience with the practice was the discovery of the mind and body connection created through pranayama (breathwork). In 2008, her pregnancy breathed life to her asana practice with the intention to bond with her baby and attend to her body’s evolving needs. Yoga soon became a means of connection to all beings beyond the surface of her own skin. How much do yoga classes cost?

Read more about local pricing and what to expect in our cost guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much do yoga classes cost?

The average cost of single group sessions at yoga studios across the country is $15 to $20. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.
