About

My teaching approach:

I shape each lesson to my students' individual needs. When I meet and begin teaching a new student, I talk about their goals with them, and what steps we can take to achieve those goals. I believe that you should grow as a musician and as a guitarist with each lesson I give my students. If that isn't happening, then I reevaluate our approach and find a new way to help my student grow. Whether it be improving their technical skills, learning how to play with other musicians, or just learning songs they love. It is all about you, the student.

My influences are:

Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Slash, Steve Vai.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

I am available to teach Monday-Friday 9am-9pm, and weekends between noon and 8pm

Guitar Techniques:

Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Scales and Exercises

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I assess their natural playing ability, talk about their experience with the instrument, what kind of music they like, what kind of music they'd like to learn how to play, any songs and artists they admire and why, anything they'd like to know how to do, any questions they have for me. I assess them by basically playing a basic progression and seeing what they do with it and how they play it. I build it from there.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

I try to have a few different areas to work on in each lesson. It all depends on the students prior experience, skill level, knowledge of the instrument, and how long each lesson is.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Someone who loves music, loves guitar, is committed to learning as much as possible, and who is disciplined enough to practice on their own time. Essentially, someone who respects me and my time as much as they respect the music and skills I'm teaching them.

Frequently asked questions

If the student has experience in guitar, I typically ask them to play a song for me which they love, and I’ll critique it and we’ll spend that lesson working on that song, and from their playing against and improvement on the song over the course of the lesson, I can diagnose their learning style and skill level, which allows for better learning in the following lessons.

If the student has no experience with the guitar I ask them to tell me about what music they love and we’ll follow a similarly process to what I explained above :)

I professionally teach English to children and I used to teach guitar regularly a few years ago. Also I’ve been playing guitar for 10 years and was accepted into Berklee College of Music after only playing guitar for 3 years.

I’ve always been around children and worked with children. I did babysitting for many years when I was a teenager, and then when I was old enough to tutor younger students I started doing that. And then I tutored in foreign languages, and then I started teaching guitar. Now I teach English and honestly, teaching makes me feel like I’m contributing love and positivity into the world. Knowing that a student learned something from me and can go out into the world equipped with more skills and knowledge than they had when they came into my classroom is a wonderful feeling.

Children, Teenagers, and Adults. I have not yet taught senior citizens but I’m open to the opportunity :)

Make sure you and the teacher know what your personal goals are for your studies, and that your teacher genuinely cares about your progress :)
