NATASHA LIPKINA / VIOLIN / VIOLA

Natasha Lipkina is dedicated to a vast repertoire from Baroque to Contemporary. Currently on the faculty of the music department at Nyack College School of Music, Manhattan Campus, Mrs. Lipkina received her own education on violin at the Central Special School of Music, the Moscow Conservatory, and Indiana University, where she studied with Boris Belenky, Igor Bezrodny, Alexander Bonduryansky, Tatiana Gaidamovich and Miriam Fried. While at Indiana University, she began to study viola with Atar Arad and made her viola debut in the Dubinsky Quartet later that year. Natasha has performed as a recitalist in Russia and other countries in the former Soviet Union and as a soloist with orchestras and in Russia, Romania, Germany, Finland, Japan, and the United States. She has since participated in numerous festivals including Marlboro, Norfolk, Grand Teton, Rauma (Finland), Waterloo (Belgium), Musique et Amitié (Switzerland), Southampton Arts, Le Nuits Pianistique (France), Darmstadt (Germany) and others. In addition, she has performed with the St. Luke's Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (with Claudio Abbado), SONYC, NYC Ballet and other ensembles. She has made several tours in Japan. She won prizes in the Enescu Violin Competition (Romania) and in the Shostakovich Chamber Music Competition (St. Petersburg). Natasha's performances have been broadcast on Russian Radio and TV and on WQXR in New York She has been recorded on Sony and other established labels, and on numerous soundtracks for movies. She was featured as a viola soloist in the documentary "Dance Maker" about the Paul Taylor Dance Company. She has performed on the world's major stages, including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully and Avery Fisher Halls, Merkin Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Schauspielhaus in Berlin, and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire. She is a founding director of Interplay Chamber Music Society and has been on a faculty of NYU music department and Children Orchestra Sociaety. She has been seen on "Saturday Night Live", "Today", and "David Letterman" shows as a member of a string quartet.

I share my love of music and teach students the best ways to express it playing violin. That means that we spend time on both technical skills and imagination as well talking about copmosers and their epoch.
