About

My students and I always have a laugh. We enjoy learning in a relaxed, easy going way, while making often amazingly fast progress. The violin is a very technical instrument and my training, with one of the most well known technical violin pedagogues in the world, allows me to break this down into easy to learn chunks and exercises. My aim is to enable you to be able to go as far as you want with violin playing while having an enjoyable and fun experience at the same time!

About John

John began learning the violin at age five and completed grade eight with distinction at thirteen. From 2002 to 2007 John was leader of several youth orchestras and played with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He has toured Italy, the major concert halls in the UK, played live at the BBC proms under Sir Colin Davis and as soloist with the Cheltenham Philharmonic Orchestra. After studying at the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music, where he led the orchestra, John went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (sister school to the better known Juilliard) with internationally renowned violin pedagogue Simon Fischer.

Since then, John has taught privately and in schools for 15+ years and also owned a project recording studio. He currently resides on the Sunshine Coast of Australia but is able to teach online all over the world.

I have heard John play many times and he is an amazing violinist and musician in general!! He also has a kind, patient and caring nature which makes him naturally suited as a teacher. Along with a relaxed attitude and high level musical training in London, I think he is an excellent teacher.

I have known John for many years. He has taught in school and from home and keeps his pupils long term because he is a skilled and enthusiastic teacher. He has a wonderful rapport with both children and adults and will share his love for the violin with you. John will inspire you whether you are starting out or already an experienced violinist.

I am an adult amateur who started as a child then stopped for years. I’ve been taking lessons with John for about six years now and I can’t recommend him highly enough. The lessons are fun and we have a laugh, but make no mistake, John is a wonderful player, who not only knows his stuff inside out, he knows how to teach it too, breaking techniques down into easily manageable chunks. He also really listens to what you want from your playing and shows you how to achieve that. I have never thought of myself as particularly talented at the violin, but I have worked hard over the last 6 years, following his expert guidance, and can now play better than I ever thought possible. I am excited to discover just how much further I can go under his tuition.
