My teaching approach:

My approach with beginners is to assure that they have a solid foundation to work off of for what ever styles they may wish to pursue once the advance. I think that it is very important that the student have a well rounded beginning, learning to read music, the theory behind the kneck of the guitar ect.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

The student will be asked to play what ever they can or know for me to get a good idea of a starting point. But also a dialogue between teaching and student is a must, this is where I can find out the students reason for wanting to learn the instrument as well as the students goals, this will help me mold lesson to each individual.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Based off of the students ability on the guitar we will determine if and where there are gaps or weakness and really start to work on those. I will also look at each and everyone's individual strengths and also build off of that.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal student would be a motivated eager to learn person, someone who puts a lot in and gets a lot in return. I firmly believe that as a teacher I am more of the student than the student him/her self. A good student teaches me a lot and also provides me inspiration.
