About
Northfield Music got its start in music education as T Rizzo Music in 1975. The name was changed in 1983 when Joe Chiappone, one of the T Rizzo guitar teachers purchased the business from its founder Tom Rizzo. Tom became a road musician in the late 70's touring with the Maynard Ferguson band, Blood Sweat and Tears and eventually ended up with Doc Severinsons Quintet and he relocated to LA. The teaching business was always based on the performing end of the music spectrum and the teachers who worked there were and still are versatile professional performers who are able to take a students musical aspirations to fruition, whether that be for their own personal enjoyment, as preparation to play with other like minded musicians or to prepare for careers in the music industry. We have helped literally thousands of students to reach their goals.
Acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, piano and drums are taught 5 days a week to students ages 6 and up at all levels and in a wide variety of musical styles. Each of our teachers has no less than 15 years of teaching and professional performing experience!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
As the owner/operator/professional musician with 34 years of matching students with teachers to meet their learning needs, I want to find out what those needs are. Are they new to the instrument, have they had other musical experiences prior to coming to Northfield Music, what are their aspirations. What day and time frame works best with their schedule. Their respective teacher will take all previous experience into account and work with the student at the pace he/she is comfortable with. There is no one way to teach, everyone learns at their own pace, so our teachers are very flexible in terms of style and are great to work with whether the student is going to be around for just one or a few lessons, or years of progress. Many of our former students have gone on to have very successful careers of their own in the music industry.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our music lessons are all the same price regardless of which teacher you have. Lessons are currently $26 for a private half hour lesson. If we are holding a regular weekly time for a student, then lessons are paid for by the month at the beginning of each new month. There is no commitment to a certain number of lessons and the spot is held for you each new month unless you tell us not to hold it. We just ask for 2 weeks notice prior to stopping lessons.
