Hey everyone! My name is Max Bova. I am a recent graduate of St. Edward's University with a BBA in Accounting. While my accounting job pays the bills, my true passion lies in music. I have been playing the guitar since the age of eight (for the last 15 years), and have played nearly every style from lead, rhythm, bass, banjo, ukulele, acoustic, electric, rock, jazz, blues, folk, alternative, country, bluegrass and worship. While at St. Edward's, I studied music theory, guitar, and piano. I currently play rhythm, lead and bass for my band. My philosophy on how to be a great musician is to first listen to music. Learn to appreciate many different types of music. Pay attention to what these musicians do, and learn how to play the parts that really strike you. Play along with your favorite music. Get to a point where you understand how to make each sound out of your instrument. Once you have a couple of styles down and start to understand your instrument, take note of patterns that these pieces follow. Eventually, get to the point where you can take all of these pieces and put them together in your own way, and make something your own. I still remember what it was like to first start playing a guitar. I remember how frustrating it was to understand the music language, and struggle over pieces that some found simple. I can use my experience of learning the guitar, bass, and ukulele to help teach these instruments in a way that will eliminate frustration and get my students on their way to being able to express themselves through their instrument.
