Guitarist With 10+ Years Experience Offering Online Guitar Lessons To People Of All Ages
About
My approach to teaching is based on the goals of each individual student. I will always ask the student what their skill level is and what their goals are, and I will use that information to create the right lesson for each individual. I will also always encourage the students to be honest about what they like and don't like about the lessons, and I will never be bothered if a student doesn't like something or wants to do things differently. In other words, every student is the captain of their own ship, and I am just an advisor helping to guide them on their way to a better understanding of the guitar. There will be no judgement here!
Below is a list of some subjects we can cover, but keep in mind that what we do/don't go over is always up to you! None of it is mandatory, and if there is something you don't want to spend time on, we can always do things differently. Some of the possibilities are:
•Knowledge of the notes on the fretboard
•Scales (Major, Harmonic Minor, Melodic Minor, Pentatonic, Modes)
•Scale shapes (three note per string, CAGED positions, and single string)
•How to practice and use scales
•Improvisation
•Chords (All types and qualities of triads, power chords or 5ths, 6ths, 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, 13ths, 6/9 chords, etc)
•Chord voicings
•Chord scales (Major, Minor, Harmonic Minor, Melodic Minor, Modal)
•How to practice and use chords
•Recognizing chord names and reading chord charts
•Modes
•The Circle of Fourths/Fifths
•Arpeggios
•Intervals
•Songs/styles of your choice
•Various levels of techniques including basic fretting and strumming to more advanced techniques such as alternate picking, bending, vibrato, hammer ons/pull offs/legato, and ascending sweep picking
•Basic standard notation reading
•Anything you want!
I enjoy helping people learn and progress toward their goals. It is my sincere hope that everyone I teach will have a fulfilling and meaningful experience with the guitar.

Frequently asked questions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a self employed guitarist who has been playing guitar for 14 years and playing/recording music professionally for 10 years. I started playing guitar at age 11, and started getting my first paying gigs at age 15. Since then I have lived and performed regularly in Southern New Mexico, Chicago, IL, and Austin, TX. During that time I studied guitar with Dave Manley (guitarist who played with Herbie Hancock, Jill Scott, The Roots, and more) and Mike Stern (guitarist who played with Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, and more). In addition to that, I took a semester of Music Theory at Columbia College Chicago and volunteered for Blues Kids Chicago, where I helped teach elementary school aged kids how to play Blues. I offer guitar lessons for all ages and am familiar with many different musical styles, including rock, blues, jazz, and funk. I am flexible with pricing and am willing to work out details on a case by case basis. I look forward to hearing from you!
