Austin Blues Guitar Lessons
About
Welcome to Austin Blues Guitar Lessons! I specialize in private guitar lessons in the Austin area for all ages and levels. Beginner to advanced guitar lessons are offered. Are you a music lover? Wanna learn how to play like the greats: Albert King, B.B. King, and Freddy King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmie Vaughan and Stevie Ray Vaughan? I’m a young guy, but I’ve had a lifetime of performing around the world with many of the legendary players. I’d love to help anybody who’s a serious blues and rock lover. In customized music lessons, I’ll help you to develop your “ear” so you can learn from all the great recordings, teach you all the basics of playing if you’re a beginner, and teach you more serious stuff if you’re already a player. No reading charts here. The best part is having a blast playing like your heroes!
I prefer to focus my teaching on learning to play by ear, which is the approach I use, and still use, in my own playing. I feel that playing by ear has the best carryover into real world band and performing situations, at least for music genres such as blues and rock. It allows you to intuitively learn to play rather than just learning how to read notes. We don’t learn to play by sight reading from sheet music.
I emphasize a fun, organic learning atmosphere, focusing on basic theory, rhythm, lead improvisation, ear training, phrasing, and timing. I especially encourage students to bring in recordings of music they would like to learn, which helps develop their own ear by learning to play songs note for note. It is my experience and opinion that students progress best, and stay most interested, when we are learning at least some material that is specifically chosen by them.
I teach all levels of students, from outright beginners to performing musicians that have been playing guitar for decades.
Most importantly, I always strive to make the lesson time enjoyable for my students of all ages. I have found that music can be very therapeutic, especially learning how to play it on your own. I have found many of my students look at their time here as a way to escape into the world of music and creativity. This serves as a great outlet that builds confidence, concentration, dedication, and discipline. The bottom line is that learning to play guitar is very satisfying and a whole lot of fun.
