About
Music is my life. It is all I want to do. I also have a deep love for knowledge and growth. To be able to influence and share my passion with another sometimes fills me with a deeper joy than playing itself. I have listed quite a few topics to teach. Be assured I am beyond competent in all. I have a knack for seeing deeper and understanding people. I have the patience and willingness to teach anyone. I also see the greatness and potential in all people. I will respond to you in your best interest. If you need a gentle guidance, it will be received. However, it will be with a strong hand to push you along farther than you thought possible.
My name is Tom and I have loved music my whole life. I played Alto Sax in elementary school but did not pick up another instrument until I was 14: Guitar. I graduated from the University of Hartford with highest honors earning a Bachelor's Degree in Audio Engineering. I have played in several bands across the country, most of which I wrote the music for. I am currently involved in multiple projects here in Portland. I also engineered 90% of the music. Recorded, mixed, mastered, scheduled, organized, everything. I am working on running a show booking agency and starting a recording studio on top of all the band activities.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First is to guage what the student already knows and what they would like to know. Then I provide them with all of that knowledge and whatever else they don't know that they want to know. Pacing is entirely up to the student's ability and comfort.
Developing the map is as important as following it if not more.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been writing and playing music for over a decade. I have had several different versions of music theory as well as independent music analysis. Music is about more than one instrument, its how every bit weaves together.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am at a show at least once a week. Every performance sparks some level of fondness.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they will teach you what you want to know. Overpaying someone for information you won't care about or absorb is a waste of your time and money.
Rigidity is weakness.
Strength flows.
