Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I listen to the student, and cater my lessons to their desires and personality! I do whatever I can to make it fun, so the student wants to continue.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Attended the University of New Mexico, have played professionally since age 14, have toured the Southwest with bands, recorded film scores, and worked as a studio musician, vocalist and producer since 1994.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $30 per hour, but if you buy 3 hours, you get the 4th hour free, if paid in advance.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching in High School, and have done so off and on throughout my career. 4 years ago, I decided to teach as a full time job.
What types of students have you worked with?
I teach all ages, but tend to work best with middle and high school students. Although I have had adult voice and bass students as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had a student show me an original song she had written, and it was far above the level we had been working. I was extremely proud of her.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Not every teacher is for everyone. Feel free to "try on" a teacher and see.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do I really have the tome to commit to this? It's not just the hour, or half-hour of the lesson, there's the practice time, and the transportation to the lessons. It takes a lot!
