About

My teaching approach:

Learning to play guitar can be simple & fun when you approach it how you learn best. Learning from method books (which appeal to general audiences) may not inspire your true learning style. I can help you find YOUR best learning style & help you get the most out of the experience. I have my BA & MA in Music Education. Currently I am a doctoral student & my research is centered on guitar learning. Every student is different & each approach is unique. Let's have a meeting (free) to see what direction you'd like to take in learning guitar.

My influences are:

I am Classically & Jazz trained. My influences include Andres Segovia, Joe Pass, Kenny Burrell, Christopher Parkening, and many others.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas:

I teach in YOUR area of town... if you live in El Paso, Texas.

Guitar Techniques:

Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Slide Guitar, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Lead guitar

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

An introductory lesson will give you a chance to say what your dreams are. In seeing you for the first time, I can assess where to start you on your chosen path. I assess every student, with their guitar, uniquely: 1) I see & test their instrument out for playability, 2) I listen to the student play simple exercises to gauge finger dexterity & facility, 3) I ask questions about your goals in order to assign you appropriate tasks to help you best.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Guitar lessons vary with each individual. I help students find THEIR learning style according to THEIR interests in guitar. After an initial assessment, students & I work together to set goals that satisfy their expectations. Each lesson starts with a review of chosen music & techniques. New material is presented in a graduated way & new goals are set for following meetings.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Ideal guitar students practice & are hungry for their lesson every week. The best students are dreamers! They KNOW what they want & they play guitar because the music drives them. They want skills & techniques to express themselves. These students want to play guitar so much & many of them will perform in front of audiences with a lot of confidence gotten from good lessons.
