Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I enjoy watching my students become successful on their musical journey. I also enjoy teaching and learning how to improve my teaching and performance skills. I gain great joy from observing my students perform on stage and growing in their musical endeavors and abilities. Parental involvement is the key to your child's success in music. Make time to listen, encourage, and praise your child's music practice. Practice with your child. Attend all music lessons. It is very important to purchase a quality instrument and equipment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music and 20 years of teaching experience in special education and music. I practice playing music on the guitar and piano daily. I constantly read music literature on music education. I am always learning and improving my teaching methods.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$25.00 for a 30 minute private lesson.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The cheapest priced teacher is not always the best instructor. Review your teacher credentials and recommendations. A great teacher is not always an excellent performer. Many great performers do not know the first thing about teaching. Observe your teacher in how he or she instructs and what the teacher does when the student can't understand the instructions. Does the instructor offer alternative ways of learning a particular skill?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How motivated are you to learning to play an instrument?
