How did you get started teaching?
"I have always been fascinated with the human mind and body. I was a multiple-sport varsity athlete in high school and played semi-professional football while I was in college.
In 2009, while working on my Kinesiology degree, I began training general population clients of all ages and working with D-1 athletes in a variety of sports.
In 2013, I began teaching yoga while also formally learning more about nutrition in relation to chronic disease and exercise physiology. This led me down the path of beginning to compete as a natural bodybuilding athlete as a hobby and to show my clients that I walk the walk.
In 2014, I began training clients online and in 2017 I founded Kempf Fitness Professional LLC. so I could start expanding my circle of influence and working with clients worldwide.
I now train clients part-time at a Arete Athletics, a private studio in Bellevue, WA and occassionally perform in-home client sessions too.
I absolutely love what I do and I practice a healthy, holistic lifestyle every day so I can be an example for my clients in hopes to empower them to create positive change in their lives as well." -John

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
"I recently was selected by the Ministry of AYUSH to represent America as a yoga ambassador during the Yoga Ambassador Tour 2018 in Kerala, India from June 13th to June 22nd.
This 10-day tour brought together 52 yoga instructors from all around the world to showcase the beauty of India and celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21st.
We traveled by bus and riverboat all throughout the absolutely stunning countryside of Kerala while interacting with the local culture and visiting all of the amazing temples, ashrams, and 5-star hotels. There was also a full day of lecture about the philosophy of yoga and Indian culture which was very interesting.
It was the most beautiful experience I've ever been a part of and I made some incredible new friends that I continue to collaborate with to this day!
I highly recommend anyone interested in traveling to India to join me for my annual 10-day yoga retreat where I take 20 lucky souls with me to stay at 5-star hotels and soak in the healing experience that Kerala has to offer. Contact me for details!" -John
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that you resonate with your instructor and get to know them on a personal level before investing for the long term. Make sure they actually care about your health and not your money. This will help improve your ability to learn from them and it will also help you determine whether or not they are really as good as they say they are.
There are plenty of "health coaches" and "trainers" in the world today, but most of them do not have the three critical ingredients that make a good teacher: formal education, practical experience, and an authentic passion to serve others over anything else.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
-What things are in your life right now that bring you the most reward and you want to keep around in the future?
-What things are in your life right now that aren't working for you or that you would like to get rid of?
-On a scale of 1 to 10, how committed are you to changing your behavior patterns, your nutrition, and your fitness to achieve this new life you desire?
-What obstacles or difficulties do you see in your path to becoming your best self? Finances? Relationships? Job?
-What would your new life look like if you overcame these previously mentioned obstacles and made these changes to your life right now?
-How can you create strategies to overcome these obstacles and achieve your greatest potential?
-Who else is invested in this journey with you and do they support you in these new decisions you desire to make?
-Why would you be a good client to work with?
-Are you willing to invest the time, money, and effort needed to work with me and become the greatest version of yourself?
