About

I have been playing in bands since the 8th grade, and currently play in a successful local cover band. While I specialize at rock, I can teach most genres. I also have a jazz background in bass. I am passionate about meeting students half a step ahead of where they are at, and shepherding them along, instead of standing miles down the road insisting they catch up.

I have professional gear, and can walk you through your journey of acquiring the best gear with your budget and needs. I can help you record and mix, as well as show you the ropes of actually forming a band, if that's what you want.

I'm pretty much excited to just share my knowledge, and meet motivated students who want to get better at my favorite thing in the world: making music.

Would highly recommend James. The lesson plan he provided was incredibly helpful in helping me improve my bass skills and hes very great at communicating points to improvement. Hes a great resource for all things bass

    Frequently asked questions

As I mentioned elsewhere, I like to first assess the student by just having a conversation of where they are at, what their goals are, and if I'm a good fit. Then, I will ask them to play a song that is at the upper echelons of their skill level, to assess.

After that, I will explain what I noticed in playing, and what I'd like to address, based on both my observations, and our previous conversation.

I have over 20 years of playing semi and full-time professionally. I have played in touring jazz bands, and my current project has a monthly residency at a prestigious local venue.

I tailor my pricing to students needs, and am flexible in all aspects. Please don't hesitate to negotiate prices when we get talking.

I gravitated towards teaching after showing my brother's children how to play the guitars they got during Christmas.

All ages! Levels beginner to advanced intermediate.

Has to be my band's monthly residency at Soda Bar! People have told me multiple times that it is such a fun event and I'm so glad I can create a community and that people have a great experience.

Don't just look for pure shredding, make sure you find someone that matches the sound you want!

How many hours a week can I devote to practice? What kind of musician do I want to be (bedroom guitarist, solo, play in band). Who are my inspirations? Where is that smell coming from?
