About this pro

UPDATE:  Due to the state of the world, I am only doing lessons via Skype or Zoom, for the time being.  But as such, your first 30 minute lesson is FREE!!  I offer this because times are tough for everyone, and this is an oppurtinity for you to see if I will be a good fit for you as a teacher without having to spend an arm and a leg in the process!  Luckily, I've been doing both of these platforms for some time, so I have all of the kinks worked out!!  Please email me for more information. :)

Not only do I bring a personal approach and teach the student what they want to know, I bring a philosophical approach to the art of music that will inspire the student to reach beyond what they think they can know.

The greatest joy I receive from teaching is when I see that light bulb light up above a student's head when something they've been working hard on finally clicks!

Rice truly was everything one could ask for out of an instructor. His willingness to explore other people's preferred style of playing guitar was outstanding. He answered all my questions and I felt right at home doing lessons with him. I really enjoyed playing the guitar with Rice and I'd definitely recommend him to anyone who's interested.

Rice provides a very comfortable, laid back learning environment. His personable attitude and patience is great for beginners like myself who may struggle to pick up concepts. Rice is an all around nice guy who truly wants you to succeed!

Rice is an excellent musician and provides theory plus non music practice to achieve muscle memory. and a real nice guy. Lesson time fly by!

Worked on knowing my level of experience so we could go from there. Great feel and technique, and doesn't teach over your head but still gives you something to think about. Great teacher!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Every student is different, but usually, the first meeting involves a lot of getting to know where the student is with their instrument, what kind of music inspires them, and what kind of music would they like to learn.  From there, I can tailor a lesson plan that fits their skillset and interest, and makes it fun for them to learn and play.  I do have standard notes and curriculum I work off of, but it is designed to be fluid and conducive to the students strengths and learning methods.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Lessons are $30 for 30 minutes, but your first lesson is FREE!!!  I offer discounts for paying for a full month of lessons in advance, and also for referring a friend or family member.  Hour long sessions are available, but I generally recommend longer sessions for adults, as younger kids will start to lose focus after the first half hour.

How did you get started teaching?

It literally happened by accident when a guitar store owner overheard me noodling on a guitar.  He asked if I had ever taught before...  Long story short, he offered me a job on the spot.  The rest is history. :)

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with every type of student you can imagine, from the kids who are just starting off, to retired folks who are looking to pick back up on a hobbie they put on the shelf years ago.
