Lyz Rae Yoga

About

Between a physically demanding job and lots of desk time while in college, she found that a regular yoga practice was an easy choice to find balance. She observed subtle shifts in body and mind that eventually became a way of life. In order to share the joy she experienced with others she took the steps to become a teacher. She trained with Shivakali Yoga and received her 200 hour RYT certification in 2017.

Since then she has taught to various levels- in a studio, on the beach, at private residences, parties, retreats, college, prison, and others.

Lyz instructs a spirited alignment-based vinyasa class in tune with the seasons and phases of the moon. She enjoys pairing the flow with beats to inspire movement.

Lyz Merola has lived in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California, landing and planting roots in beautiful Ventura County.

Yoga is more than a physical practice- it has the potential to transform the way we perceive ourselves and others, and in turn the way we walk through the world. My yoga practice showed me how to tune in to my own experience, which allowed my eyes to open wider to the world. Linking body, mind and spirit as often as we can means we can move forward with a calm, steady, open heart.

I love sharing my passion for meditation through movement with my students. I focus on the subtle anatomical shifts to deepen each shape. This way every student (regardless of their level of practice) can find their edge, and maybe even discover something new about their body. I find that once we find the rhythym of our breath in asana practice, there is no room in the mind for thoughts. Energy is cultivated, nourishing ourselves so that we can greet those around us from a place of strength and balance.

    Frequently asked questions

Initial communication via email or text is great, so that the student and I can clearly express our intentions and decide if we should proceed.

If we make a good match, I would schedule a time to have a phone conversation or, if its convenient, meet up for coffee/tea in order to discuss the student's or group's needs.
