About
I’ve been playing music for most of my life and I’ve been teaching music full time since 2005. I have several music degrees including a Masters in Guitar Performance. I love teaching the guitar and I think I do a great job of passing my enthusiasm as well as my knowledge to my students.
Lesson plans are built around each students tendencies and taste. I guarantee you’ll have a blast learning to play. We’ll work hard, but we get to grow our music brains! Fun!
I love teaching music. I mean I love it. Like crazy. Playing music is my favorite thing to do and I really enjoy fostering that enjoyment in other people, while helping to expand their horizons. It's not always easy but it is always fulfilling.
I have a lot of teaching experience and I’ve taught so many different people. Everyone is unique, so I pride myself in my flexible approach when it comes to each student. One of my favorite things is presenting material to each student as an individual with a custom approach for each.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
All of my students eventually find their own path, but everyone begins at the basics. I introduce students to the fundamentals of music through the instrument of their choice. Once the student demonstrates an interest in a direction I will shape the lesson times to cater to their interest while maintaining the general core of a solid music education.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master of Music in Guitar Performance and Bachelors of Music in Guitar Performance and Music Composition. I've been teaching music full time since 2005. I've played in a variety of settings; from rock bands to classical ensembles. I've jammed on the banjo, the bass, and a guitar made of ice.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are $30 per half hour lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching straight out of University, in the back of a local music store.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students of all ages and persuasion; kids as young as 5 and adults in their 90's. I've worked with special needs children and quite a few fussy adults as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have small victories with students constantly. I would be hard-pressed to find just one. One of favorite things is the aha moment that is inevitable whenever we start talking about technique or theory. And I really love when younger students work independently.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who can be a mentor. Someone who is going to dig deep with you on the instrument. Find a true expert who is a lifer and a professional. Students should be learning Music (capital M) with as well as their chosen instrument.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It's helpful (not necessary, but helpful) to figure out what your goals are, and find some specific things that you would like to learn. A good teacher will have a structured path for students, but they will be able to include your goals and interests on that path as well.
