Empower Personal Training
About
My name is Christy Szemborski, and I am the founder of Empower Personal Training, LLC. I decided to become a personal trainer having spent years being that person that wanted to lose weight, but once I stepped inside a gym, had no clue what to do. I thought weights were reserved for the boys. NOT the case!! Now, having emerged to the other side, I use my skills, my experiences and my own journey to help others.
I care about my clients, and there is nothing more important to me than helping somebody go through an experience that makes them happy, confident and strong. I know how being overweight affects your whole life, and I am here for those who want to bring about change. I want to help you discover the benefits of training that have helped me become the person I am today. I am here to guide you every step of the way whether experienced or new to exercise.
I understand that life can be hectic, and it can be difficult to find time to work out; I have been there myself. Now, I have used my experiences to design a program that is manageable, enjoyable and proven to work.
I have been a certified personal training coach for over 14 years and I have worked with everyone from kids training for their sport, to people well into their 90’s. Everyone has the need to stay active, why not have fun doing it?
Certifications:

I love seeing people succeed. I enjoy training people of all ages. I have experiance training people for their sport. I've worked with soccer, rugby and tennis atheletes along mountain bikers. But I really enjoy coaching someone that never played a sport and having them turn into an athelete along the way.

How did you get started teaching?
I was a client first for several years. I remember telling my coach that I felt so good coming to the gym that I would love to be a coach one day. He started giving me ideas on how to get certified. I decided one day that I was going to do it. While I was studying for my test, I was able to come into the gym where my fellow coaches would quiz me. I was given the chance to shadow other coaches and learn from them. Once I passed my first certification, I was asked to if I wanted to become a part of their team. I happily accepted and worked there for 10 years.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with people of all ages. I have worked with kids as young as 10 years old training for their sport to seniors well into their 90's.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A client asked me if I thought she would be able to do an obstacle course race. She had never done one before. I told her that she absolutely could and we could start training for it.
We trained for a couple months before the race. I ran along side her and when we finished, she had tears of joy. It was a very special moment.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure your coach is certified through an accredited association but also someone you can connect with. Each coach brings something to the table and its important that you are on the same page.
That the coach listens to YOUR goals and not what they think you should do.
