Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Do a session with the student either evaluating a prepared audition or after discussion having them do a cold reading and then repeat after review and adjustments to determine their level of technique and creative abilities.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Degree from Syracuse Drama, several workshops with RSC and John Barton. Work as both Director and Assistant Director to notable Broadway and off Bway Directors and Class work with many known actors and directors over a 30year career.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Base price for once a week is $50 /hr. Depending on frequency it can be less or distance I need to travel it can be more.
How did you get started teaching?
Have worked with pros as an audition coach and done significant workshops with directors, teachers from RSC and directed and coached musical theater and cabaret singers at all levels. Enjoy working with individuals more than class or workshop situations as you can have a more immediate effect and help nurture their talent.
What types of students have you worked with?
All levels from high school students wanting to audition for college theater programs, middle schoolers wanting to perform in school plays, summer stock children and adults needing coaching because of shortened rehearsal schedules, pros, have done cabaret workshops, directed and produced off Broadway and built education programs for theaters and schools here in Ct.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Worked as Director on a Evening of Musical Theater with Norwalk Symphony and am now scheduled to direct an Amahl and The Night Visitors for them next Christmas Season. Last years Cabaret season directed Shine w/ Leslie Orofino which was asked back both in Norwalk and NYC after a stellar review in Broadway World etc
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that you ask lots of questions if you do not understand their methods... if they ask you to try something... it is your job to try but don't be afraid to ask why and to get immediate feedback on what you do.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do I want to become a better actor/singer? Are there things I should be doing outside of my lessons? What can I do to practice ? Are there things I can do before my lesson to prepare? How much time do I need to spend working between lessons?
