About

Hello! My name is Jake Lutz. I'm an experienced guitar player studying at Depaul University and would love to introduce you or your child to the instrument! I will teach you guitar however you would like to learn! Many people are discouraged from music because they don't know how to read sheet music. But you don't need to know how to read music or know music theory to play guitar! But if you ARE looking to learn how to read sheet music or music theory I'd be more than happy to teach it in a very intuitive and interesting way!

Life is difficult. Appreciating music makes it easier. And the more you understand something the more you can appreciate it.

I was never taught music as a child despite showing extreme interest in it. I wish I'd learned music earlier but my family understandably couldn't afford it. So, supplying affordable lessons for children who otherwise couldn't learn is extremely satisfying. Same goes for adults. If you display an interest in music I will teach you as much as you'd like to learn.

    Frequently asked questions

First, we discuss what the student is looking to learn. Are they simply looking to learn how to play songs for fun? Are they trying to get an in depth understanding of what music actually is and how it functions? What are they students musical goals?

I taught myself guitar after taking lessons for a couple months. I understand the frustrations of lessons can bring. I know what discouraged me from learning music. I can help you overcome some of these obstacles to keep your musical endeavors interesting.

I started teaching my friends how to play guitar. The idea progressed from there.

Make sure you enjoy your instructor. If you don't like your teacher, your learning experience will be much more of a struggle than it needs to be than if you have an teacher makes you excited about music.

Why do you want to play guitar? What are you goals for learning? How do you want to learn? Do you want to learn on a practical level where you simply know how to play songs? Or are you looking for a deeper understanding to how music works? Either is a perfectly acceptable approach to the instrument. Think about what you want from lessons, and make sure your instructor knows what that is.
