John Barrera Guitar Lessons

My teaching approach:

the first 3 lessons are free and there is no contract. I do this because I think that people should get a chance to try something out that they are not familiar with. Musicians have their own individual voice on their instrument, I aim to develop that with my students. I am a very friendly and patient teacher because ultimately its about having fun. I encourage my students to ask me questions should they encounter during the week.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas:

Downtown, and surrounding areas. Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square, Lincoln Park ,(possibly burbs

Guitar Techniques:

Guidance In Equipment Selection, Recording and Production, Song Writing, Scales and Exercises, Music Theory, Jamming Skills, Improvisation, Rhythm guitar, Lead guitar

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

Find out what their skill level is (none necessary). If students have any experience, I would ask them to play something they would normally play in their own time. If the student has no experience, I explain what it is going to be like learning to play. Its a lot of fun. Mistakes are part of the learning process. I am here to help.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Going over last weeks homework, then explain new material, and how to practice the new material. I typically set up a practice regimen that helps the student know exactly how much to practice to see results.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Wants to both learn their favorite songs, and develop as a unique musician.
