About

My teaching approach:

My teaching style is creative and dynamic. I listen to the student and adapt to her current skill level, while at the same time encouraging the student to reach her full potential. I specialize in fingerpicking (I was trained in classical guitar) but I also play and teach folk and pop guitar. I am nonjudgmental, empathetic, and encouraging. I think it is important to build confidence in beginning guitar players.

My influences are:

Elliott Smith, the Magnetic Fields, Wilco, the Kinks, Fiona Apple, Joni Mitchell

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

Guitar Techniques:

Fingerstyle, Performance, Improvisation, Song Writing

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I offer a free consultation to see where the student is at, and for the student to get a feel for my teaching style. I usually talk to the student and ask them to play a song for me; usually I can get an idea pretty quickly of their skill level.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

A typical lesson would consist of 1. Review of "homework," i.e. what the student has been working on at home. 2. Introduction of new material 3. Practice with new songs and new techniques 4. Sometimes songwriting practice, if the student is interested in that 5. Assigning of "homework"

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

open to new ideas and able to incorporate feedback.
