Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have new students fill out a new student form. We find out if they have any aches, pains or injuries. A tour of the studio is given so they know where everything is and often other students welcome new students and introduce themselves.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Wendy is one of the first IAYT certified Yoga Therapists in Kansas City. She is an E-RYT 500 hour yoga teacher and owner of OM Prana Yoga. She has specialty training in working with Cardiac & Cancer Yoga Therapy, knee and hip replacements, other injuries including TBIs. Wendy is the lead teacher for Om Prana Yoga’s 200 hour yoga teacher training program and lead faculty for IAYT Accredited Yoga Yoga’s Yoga Therapy program.
Each of the teachers who teach at Om Prana Yoga are a 200 hour, or higher, teacher who has been educated by master level or higher teachers in their craft.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$15 for a drop in Yoga Class.
$75 an hour for private Yoga Therapy
How did you get started teaching?
Wendy wanted to deepen her own yoga practice so started taking teacher training. Through the training program she really found that she loved being able to offer suggestions to people that could make them feel better in their mind, body and spirit.
What types of students have you worked with?
I specialize in working with students who have never tried yoga before. Many of my students are in their 40s and up and many have experienced injuries or have a need to practice yoga to decrease their stress level.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Ribb & Wendy just came back from “Yoga Camp” in Montana where they spent 7 days with their master teacher, Judith Hanson Lasater. It was an amazing time of learning, exploring and resting!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure your teacher is well trained and that they have participated in at least a 200 hour yoga teacher training. (Not just a weekend workshop.) Ask them about their personal practice. If they don’t have one, they shouldn’t be teaching you. You should also know what their level of experience is working with modifications and their philosophy on using props.
At om Prana we believe that every person can do yoga and we love to work with students to find the best fit for them in regards to props. All teachers are at least 200 hour yoga teacher trained, or higher. All have been trained by Wendy either at the 200 hour or as a yoga therapist.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Do you have props at the studio?
2. What is the teacher’s education and philosophy on yoga?
3. Are teachers equipped to handle any injuries you have?
