Omar T. says, " Ive never taken yoga before and have alot of muscle imbalance issues that had a detrimental effect on my well being. Miho is an excellent teacher. She was very patient and made sure i followed strict form while making sure we only went as far as I could manage. She never pushed me too far and we practiced many specific Asanas that I feel helped target these issues I was having. Overall it has been a great experience! " Read more

Julia F. says, "At Least 7 Health Issues Began to Fade Away in Just 2 Weeks (Julia Fryer, School Teacher, VA, USA) A two hour mini VIP session with Shanthi allowed me to get a lot of guidance, direction in my life, and a major breakthrough in one afternoon. We really started sinking into some of the things that were holding me back, things so basic that they affect your whole day, your whole year - finances and food. While my friends around me were doing what I was doing, drinking coffee to get through the morning, living paycheck to paycheck, I did not feel like my health or finances were flourishing. I needed a new perspective and someone to be on my team. With Shanthi's ideas and support, we figured out what were the ones that were really hurting me, like eating out and drinking coffee (both of which hurt me and my finances). Something within told me that I needed to seek help and make these changes and Shanthi encouraged me to implement easy changes in simple steps which brought me back to good health. To my surprise, at least 7 health issues started to fade away in just 2 weeks. This was an excellent place to start on my journey and I hope to go far with Shanthi as a guide and a friend." Read more

She is outstanding! She is so inspirational and encouraging to all of us in the class. She cares deeply about helping all of us become a better version of ourselves and leaves us with caring, thoughtful, energizing thoughts to start our day. I am so grateful to be one of Cheryl's students and look forward to our regular classes so much. Cheryl is so capable and is a role model for all of us mentally, physically, and emotionally. Her yoga class is challenging technically for in a good way. We improve with every class. She also gently guides each of us by correcting any pose that we need to improve. So very helpful! Even more important than her wonderful technique, is how she makes each of us feel by the end of class. We are ready to address any challenges that we may face and make a difference in the world thanks to her encouragement. I wholeheartedly recommend Cheryl as a leader, manager, instructor, and coach / inspirational mentor in your organization! I offer philosophical-based yoga. My sequences are rooted in alignment and are centered around a peak pose, but I also offer teachings on how to bring the practice off the mat and into the world. Yoga is meant to be lived! And the mat can be a mirror to seeing ourselves more objectively and becoming who we truly are rather than who we've been patterned to be. I am 200-hour certified and teach at local yoga studios and corporate yoga to businesses, as well as private yoga. I am continuously educating myself by studying with my teachers. I assist the New School of Yogic Arts, a 200-hour yoga teacher training school in Brookline, MA. I love seei...

Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.

I chose the YogaLaasyam program as my personal introduction to Yoga and I have found it meaningful, giving me a sense of direction. The program feels good and gives me opportunities to learn Yoga with a sense of understanding. My favorite surprise is how much of fun it is. It is good for my growth and has become a part of my day. I chose this dance style of Yoga because I was intrigued by the Mudras, as I had a bad break in my left wrist area last year. I was very interested in dance as well as symbology. Shanthi’s program starts in a way I can follow without hurting myself because she emphasizes on respecting your body. The program never makes me feel rushed to push myself through something I’m not ready for, but has a nice, smooth progression that matches the relaxing and meditational tone of the teachings. I can feel each Mudra stretch some muscles of my hand while working others. The shikara mudra feels especially good on my thumbs, which have some arthritis from my job. I wanted to learn Yoga ONLY from someone who had the whole story (not just the poses, but the wisdom and science). Shanthi was my natural choice as she is dedicated to sharing the ancient wisdom of Yoga in its authentic form. Shanthi’s teaching style is so natural that I feel like a child who is learning through play. Thank you, Shanthi!
